Cell Site Analysis (CSA) is one of the single most important processes in determining the actual operational footprint and physical/geographic movements of a mobile telephone.
Whilst mobile devices such as telephones can hold only a relatively small amount of data when compared to desktop computers, information relating to physical movement can be extremely valuable and revealing.

This process involves engineers carrying out comprehensive drive trials around a specific route or focussing their attention on a single Post Code. These drive trials measure actual cell site coverage utilising the most sophisticated data gathering, global positioning and analytical tools in the industry.

The gathered information is used as the basis for producing detailed coverage maps where the total area driven is demonstrated and the coverage areas of the individual cell sites are shown as different colours. Maps are available in many formats including aerial photography, OS ranges and A-Z streetmaps.

Our service includes the post-analysis review of investigation results and the preparation of a detailed investigation report. The appointed forensic analyst will review the telecommunications infrastructure and determine whether the prosecution findings are indeed accurate and where the best avenues of challenge for the defence case reside.

From the identification of anomalies, such as network 'black-spots', presence of 'repeaters', areas of 'non-dominance', and other factors can be explored and used to asist in undermining police evidence and the reliability of the investigation.

Analysis of the Call Detail Records can also indicate association of individual handset numbers, geographical location of handset utilisation i.e. post codes and addresses of individual cell sites, specific handset and SIM card pairings, incoming and outgoing calls and date, time and duration of calls.

Our service includes the post-analysis review of investigation results and the preparation of a detailed investigation report. If criminal or other legal proceedings are necessary we can produce witness statements and attend court to deliver expert testimony in support of the analysis undertaken and material found.

We offer a 24x7 comprehensive investigation service that involves the recovery of digital information. Our experts work with clients to determine the nature of incidents and use established computer forensic investigation techniques to preserve evidence, whilst maintaining its continuity and integrity. Our analysts are Certified Information Security Professionals (CISSPs) and trusted to undertake the most sensitive of investigations.

Understanding Encryption
Encryption is the process of transforming information (referred to as plaintext) to make it unreadable to anyone except those possessing special knowledge, usually referred to as a key. The result of the process is encrypted information (in cryptography, referred to as ciphertext).

In many contexts, the word encryption also implicitly refers to the reverse process, decryption (e.g. "software for encryption" can typically also perform decryption), to make the encrypted information readable again (i.e. to make it unencrypted).

Encryption has long been used by militaries and governments to facilitate secret communication. Encryption is now used in protecting information within many kinds of civilian systems, such as computers, networks (e.g. the Internet e-commerce), mobile telephones, and bank automatic teller machines.

Provisions in Part III of the 'Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000' provide law enforcement authorities with the right to demand access to the original plaintext or encryption keys, so as to prevent crime or assist in ongoing investigations.

Whether passwords or encryption keys have been lost, forgotten, or rendered unusable due to corruption - BURTON DIGITAL have unique facilities to assist clients in unlocking protected data to assist in defence case preperations.
